Course description:
From September 9 to 11, 2022, you can learn more about all the rules and procedures that apply during freedive competitions and become an AIDA level E Judge.
This course is not only for freedivers who want to become an AIDA Judge, but is also very useful for athletes who want to improve their knowledge of the AIDA competition rules and regulations.
At the AIDA competitions or record attempts, qualified AIDA International Judges are required to assess the performance of the athletes in accordance with the AIDA competition rules and regulations.
The AIDA judges are present at the freediving competitions to ensure that the AIDA rules are respected and applied by every athlete as well as organizer.
Kimmo Lahtinen will be the course instructor, taking with him a lot of experience and expertise: he used to be a navy diver in Finland (1989-2010), is a CMAS Scuba Instructor, was AIDA President (2010-2016), and is AIDA Instructor Trainer and AIDA AI Judge Instructor as well as owner of FreeXperience. He is also known for the book Freediving and the FreeXperience freedive materials.
In the AIDA Judge course, Kimmo Lahtinen gives you a detailed overview of the AIDA competition rules and how to apply them as a Judge. The course is taught in English.
During the course we will assess freediving performance on video and we will also assess freediving performance during live water simulations.
AIDA Judge Level-E Course Entry Requirements:
- you must be 18 years or older
- you must be a certified freediver
- you have completed a liability form
- you have participated in a competition as an athlete or as a safety diver (no obligation)
- you have adequate understanding of the English language
The course duration:
The course takes place over 3 days of which 3 are theory sessions and 3 are practical sessions.
Friday 9 September from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Saturday, September 10 from 09:00 to 20:00
Sunday 11 September from 09:00 to 16:00

The costs for the AIDA Judge level-E course are:
€ 210,- (including AIDA certification) for non-DFA members
The costs for the AIDA Judge level-E course update for registered Judges are:
€ 90 (including AIDA certification) for non-DFA members
